View From The Hill
For those who have been following our twitter account @CFMCoach you will see that the EMCC and the ICF released a joint code of practice for coaches: a landmark in the development of the profession. Hard on the heels of that great piece of work comes the contracts. EMCC has got together with the Institute of Consultants and Rogers Osbourne (a legal company) and drafted three different versions of a coaching contract. One is for companies, one is for a partnership and one is for an independent coach.
I have to say that these contracts look good for the profession. This sends a loud and clear signal that we are getting professional in our approach and that can only be good for the buyers. A long time coming, but they are significant pieces of work. Teaming up with the Institute of Consultants for this is a shrewd move. From a legal point of view, consultancy is the closest domain to our own of coaching and mentoring so it makes perfect sense. Both of these documents can be downloaded from the EMCC’s website although the contracts are downloadable for members of the EMCC only. However, both the contract and the code will be reviewed by delegates on our next coaching cohort starting on 6th September 2011.
Have a good month.
